It's good - but Win and Mac only

    Date: Feb 01 2026

Summary: The perfect non-subscription replacement for Lightroom. I've been upgrading over multiple versions and it keeps getting better. I think the current (v9) move to put AI into selections is a misstep (that shuts out a lot of lower-spec PCs) but I'd otherwise recommend it

Positive: I'm on version 8, have been using it since v2.
Spectacularly good demosaicing, great color control, good UI. Direct support of Gretag color card. Best denoising out there (but from raw photos only). Haven't upgraded to v9 as that mostly adds AI masking - and I could care less about that

Negative: The database features are somewhat lacking, and you need a fairly high-spec PC for good performance. I've been unable to get the Win version running on Linux with acceptable performance and given the ongoing degradation of Windows it's a matter of time before I jump to Linux.
Also the pricing is IMO a bit deceptive. to get all features you need to buy PhotoLab 'Elite' plus FilmPack plus Viewpoint. Your ability to authenticate previous versions on new PCs goes away when you upgrade a license to a later version.
