Description
Code Galaxy is an innovative online platform aimed at teaching children the fundamentals of coding, equipping them with the skills to be the innovators of the future. Initially established as a small physical center in Austin, TX, Code Galaxy has transitioned entirely to a virtual format. Our program covers a spectrum of computer and programming skills ranging from beginner to advanced, providing young learners with essential tools for creative expression in the modern world. With a focus on collaboration and inclusivity, our online coding courses prepare children with the necessary skills and mindset to thrive in a technology-driven society. We believe that childhood is a vital period for exploration and personal development, and Code Galaxy offers both structure and support within a dynamic and stimulating environment. Unfortunately, there is currently a significant gap in quality technology and coding education within schools, primarily due to a shortage of qualified instructors. Consequently, many students do not receive a comprehensive education in computer science and programming. Code Galaxy is committed to addressing this critical issue and ensuring that young learners have access to high-quality coding education. By doing so, we aim to empower the next generation to navigate and excel in an increasingly digital world.
Description
Galaxy serves as an open-source, web-based platform specifically designed for handling data-intensive research in the biomedical field. For newcomers to Galaxy, it is advisable to begin with the introductory materials or explore the available help resources. You can also opt to set up your own instance of Galaxy by following the detailed tutorial and selecting from a vast array of tools available in the tool shed. The current Galaxy instance operates on infrastructure generously supplied by the Texas Advanced Computing Center. Furthermore, additional resources are mainly accessible through the Jetstream2 cloud, facilitated by ACCESS and supported by the National Science Foundation. Users can quantify, visualize, and summarize mismatches present in deep sequencing datasets, as well as construct maximum-likelihood phylogenetic trees. This platform also supports phylogenomic and evolutionary tree construction using multiple sequences, the merging of matching reads into clusters with the TN-93 method, and the removal of sequences from a reference that are within a specified distance of a cluster. Lastly, researchers can perform maximum-likelihood estimations to ascertain gene essentiality scores, making Galaxy a powerful tool for various applications in genomic research.
